New Patient Appointment:
Our new patient appointments are slightly longer than our routine appointments because we require more time to gather personal information, medical history, medication and understand the nature of your complaint. The podiatrist will carry out a number of foot health assessments before you will be given a treatment, which usually involves nail cutting, callous reduction and corn removal.
Standard Routine Appointment:
Our standard routine appointments are shorter and it is normal practice to make a short assessment before treatment commences, which will involve nail cutting, callous reduced and corn removal.
Single Treatment Appointment:
Our single treatment varies depending on the nature of complaint therefore we ask you to allocate up to 30 minutes.
Nail Cutting Appointment:
Our nail cutting service is available after your new patient appointment as the podiatrist must carry out the relevant assessments and clinically decided, which treatment plan is best suited to you. During this treatment, it is only the nails that are being attended too.
Verrucae Treatment Appointment:
Presenting verrucae are reduced and if appropriate, treated with acid therapy. All verrucae treatments undergo the same assessment to ensure the treatment is suitable for the individual. Additional advanced verrucae treatments are available and details of these treatments are below.
Verrutop Treatment Appointment:
Verrutop is the revolution in topical treatment for difficult warts and verrucae’s. It is based on a Nitrizinc complex, which combines the use of Nitric acid, Organic acids and Zn and Cu salts. It is a quick application applied to the verruca, it produces a painless mummification of the damaged tissue that causes the verruca to detach automatically as healthy skin forms. The recommended number of treatments is 6 treatments 2 weeks apart however, this is subject to the individual and the presentation of the skin lesion. Swift Microwave Therapy Appointment:
Swift is the pioneering new microwave therapy for the skin, which was developed here in the UK. Podiatrists can now offer this treatment within seconds, it is easy and precise with the use of a special probe applied directly to the skin, soft tissue lesions such as, verrucae’s can be treated. The treatment involves three treatments four weeks apart followed by 12 weeks review, with a possible 4th treatment if required. Please click here to find out more information about this treatment.
Nail Surgery Appointment:
Nail surgery is classed as a minor procedure, which is carried out in the clinic. Depending on the presentation of the nail it usually follows on from either a new patient appointment or a series of routine appointments. Before nail surgery commences, a thorough health assessment and consultation is carried out with the podiatrist.
The procedure involves the removal of a toe nail with the application of local anaesthetic, usually consists of either of a total nail avulsion (TNA), where by the whole nail is removed or a partial nail avulsion (PNA), where by one side of the nail is removed or in some cases both sides are removed. Depending on the reason for nail surgery, the use of phenol is required, this is known as phenolisation and causes a chemical burn to prevent the nail from growing back. The cost also includes a follow up appointment and two dressing packs.
Biomechanical Assessment:
A biomechanical assessment focuses on the lower leg, ankle and foot involving an examination of the structures, alignment, movement, strength and weaknesses. The assessment will also include an assessment on the wear and tear of your footwear, please bring your everyday footwear, such as walking or sports shoes to your appointment. Depending on the complaint and the treatment given, it is standard practice that a follow up appointment is required.
In addition to the assessment we can offer a Podosmart Gait Analysis, which is an in shoe system that improves the clinical assessment of how the individual walks and runs. Click here for more information. During the assessment, the fitting of insoles or orthotics will be carried out, if required. The cost of insoles and orthotics are not included in the biomechanical assessment.
Lower Limb Soft Tissue Massage:
Depending on the presenting complaint, a lower limb soft tissue massage may be offered after a biomechanical assessment as part of the on going treatment plan. Additionally this is available to anyone who wishes to have a lower limb/foot massage.
